May The Fourth Be With You

IMG_0169

The Rebel Alliance and the forces of the Dark Side came together for Joseph and Andrew’s birthday.  We celebrated in true Star Wars fashion.

Pizza the Hut (yeah, from Papa Johns… no comments please.)

and Wookie Cookies!  Yes, I named the food.  It was an idea stolen from Pintrest.

That’s some green Yoda Soda and a pitcher of Jar Jar Juice (punch with a weird foam… I need a punch bowl!)

We had friends from the neighborhood, Cub Scouts and church join us for the fun.

Andrew and Joe both chose their cupcakes from the Dark Side.

We finished the day with a huge Light Saber fight in the back yard.  Dollar Store pool noodles, duct tape and electrical tape provided the entertainment!

All in all, it was a great party.  Joe told Scott later that he wanted to throw a “Thank You Party” for mom because of all of her hard work.  It was heartwarming.  Happy birthday to our two wonderful, sweet boys.  We love you!!!

Soccer Season

The older three boys played soccer this season.

IMG_3098

Patrick and Luke were on the same team… The Dragons.  All of the boys on the team were really sweet and from good families.  Since this was our first season, we were happy to be on such a low-key team.  It made it all the more fun for them.

Here is Patrick kicking it in.  A mom on the team was ordering uniforms and had the brilliant idea of making Patrick #7 and Luke #4 – based on how many letters were in their name!  I think they may need those numbers from here on out now.

Joe’s team was a little different.  He was playing 8 and under (instead of U6)  Their fields are larger and they have goalies.  Most of the kids on his team had been playing together for at least 3 years – that’s 6 seasons.  Poor Joe was a little behind!  Their coach was a kindergarten teacher and very driven to win.  I think if he had more time with Joe, he would have been a great coach.  He did a great job explaining things to Joe and did spend extra time with him at practice, but the deficiency may have been too great.  It was just easier to play his super awesome players during the games to ensure the victory.  It worked… they were undefeated!

Joe spent most of his playing time as goalie.  He had some great saves!  It was hard for him to remember that he could actually use his hands.  We’re not sure he enjoyed it as much as we hoped.  He asked to play baseball in the fall instead of soccer.  We were surprised to find that there was no summer baseball league here.  It’s just TOO hot!!

In the meantime, this summer, they will all be on the swim team.  They’re supposed to be able to swim free-style the length of the pool before the start of the season.  They’re a little shaky on that one, but we have a month to practice!  Wish us luck!

Overheard, the Luke version

Andrew came downstairs bawling that Luke had hit him with a flying object.  Luke protested vehemently:  “No!  I didn’t hit him.  I missed him.”

We have math flash card races for the older three boys.  In order to win, Joe has to get twice as many as the twin with the most gets so it is a bit more fair.  Basically, Patrick always wins.  Luke hates the races because, like his mother, he’s very slow at math.  Accurate, but slow.  Anyway, I usually award a gumball or some other small treat to the winner.  Luke protested this practice:  “How about the winner just gets the joy of winning as the prize.”
