Our new stars

Thought you all might get a kick out of our boys’ latest theatrical performances.  Below you will find several links to different acts on the ‘stage’ of our bay window.  Grab some popcorn – at least 3 minute’s worth

Daddy’s Birthday

Patrick’s gift to Daddy was learning to ride his bike without training wheels.  He just decided he would do it, and he did!

We actually celebrated with a trip to the Pizza Store (Stonefire Pizza)

Luke and Patrick ride the “Hopper” – so brave of them.

After all that fun, Patrick just couldn’t take it when we had to leave.  It was so pathetic looking we had to capture it on film!

Cupcake

We have a cat.  Okay, not really, but kind of.  Is it true (or just a suburban legend) that if you feed a stray cat, she legally belongs to you?  Well, if it is, then we have a cat.

The scraggliest, skinniest, ugliest cat I’ve ever seen has been hanging out in our back yard.  She seems starved for food and affection since (literally) throwing her into the neighbors yard or over the bushes seems to not deter her from seeking our company again.

One day, she just moved my heart to pity.  Must be getting close to St. Francis’ feast day.  Anyway, I just had to feed her, she looked so pathetic.  She got a paper cup of milk which she completely finished.  Apparently, it wasn’t quite enough for her empty tummy.  A few minutes later, I went out to the yard to find her munching (again, quite literally) on the head of a little mouse.  Well, fine by me!  We’ve had a few mice in the garden not hurting anyone and a few in the (detached) garage, but when it gets cold, we’ve also had one in our wall and one in the basement.  So, being the thankful kitty she is, our new pet was just repaying me.

The boys even named her Cupcake.  But, still, they could tell that I didn’t really like her.  I don’t like any cats, even though I appreciated the yard being de-moused.  Luke especially caught on to my animosity and would say things like “oh, that yucky cat is back.  Can we donate her, mommy?”  Apparently, I mentioned about how animal control picks up strays, but I was too lazy to actually catch Cupcake and make the call.  Luke thought it was like Purple Heart… they come and pick up your donated goods.

We never did get a picture of her.  She came by every other evening or so.  Andrew and the boys were playing outside and my first realization that she was around was seeing Andrew carry her around the hind quarters, like he started with his hands around her tummy and she just slid forward until most of her body was hanging forward.  The wild little kitty never clawed or bit him, even when he subjected her to that kind of torment.

Scott taught the boys “The Cat Came Back” song (remember that one from grade school music class?) and we substitute our situation for the words.  It gets pretty silly!

New Beds

Did I mention that we’ve been slowly bringing up a bunk bed set from Scott’s Aunt Rosalie for the twins and Joe?  It’s perfect for their room – Joe on the top twin bed and Patrick and Luke on the full bed on the bottom.  Well, just to embarrass them when they’re teenagers, I'm including these precious pictures of their first experience bed-sharing.

Also, Andrew got a new bed.  A toddler bed!  IMG_0809It seems like we never even took it down.  (we did… just for a few weeks)  He prefers the floor, apparently.

First Sick Day of School

Wouldn’t you know!  Friday of the first week of school – only 5 days in, Patrick doesn’t feel well and needs to stay home.

The quote of the day comes from Luke:  “This is going to be the baddest day EVER!”  me: “why?”  Luke:  “Because Patrick is not there”

Later that day after he came home from school, Luke had another quotable:  “I had to do housekeeping centers today” (centers is their play time in different areas of the classroom.  Math center is where they play with manipulatives, art is where they make crafts, Writing is where they write each other letters for the ‘mail’, housekeeping is the play kitchen, dolls and stuffed animals, etc)  me:  “Oh, what’s the housekeeping center?”  Luke:  “It’s a bunch of girlie stuff”

Whatever Patrick had, Luke got the next day and we had to take him to an Urgent Care.  Twice last winter, he got asthma-like symptoms from a cold and we had to get breathing treatments.  It ended up okay, since that’s how we got the inhaler which has saved us trips to the hospital when they have allergic reactions.

And, Happy Birthday to Grandma yesterday!  The big 65 this year.  Any retirement plans?  Oops.  Shouldn’t have brought it up!
