Tidbits

Joe read a whole book! It was only 8 pages long and focused on the short o sound - no words over four letters, but he read the whole thing!

Joe: "Bob had a mop" (note: Bob and his mop were pictured on the page)
Mom: "Great job, Joe"
Joe: "Mommy... what's a mop?"

I swear I clean my house. Occasionally.

Last Monday, poor Luke was in bed all day long. This is a clear signal for me to either get out the barf buckets or call the doctor. It was the latter this time. Luke's breathing got really shallow and fast so we took him to the ER at the children's hospital. He needed four breathing treatments (we've never had any in this family, so mom was a little freaked out), a chest x-ray and some steroids. He is on the mend now. He got a little puffer to take home when he needs it again, and he did a great job learning how to use it. Poor guy had to wear a little mask the whole time he was there because he had two symptoms of the flu. He did great the whole time. When he got home, his brothers presented him with a little get well card they had made. Very sweet.

Luke has become very affectionate lately. I was headed out to run errands one day and he yelled out the window, "Mommy, I love you so much." Again, the other day he was telling me, "Mommy I love your cooking. And I love you!" The cooking part I kind of took with a grain of salt since he's the one giving me the most trouble trying new foods lately. It was a nice thing to say, even if it was a fib! He also wanted to make me a book mark. He was deciding which stickers to put on it, and Joe offered his help. "A heart is always nice, Luke" Precious.

Finally, I guess I don't wear skirts very often. This morning before church, all four boys came up to pet my tights-covered knee with curiosity and slightly worried looks, probably thinking, "I hope mommy is okay. Her legs are all black." Another time, Scott and I were going out on a date. I picked up Andrew to tell him good-bye before the sitter got there. He looked at my clothes, then my hair, then he put his chubby moist hand on my cheek and looked very sweetly into my face. You could almost see the wheels turning in his little head. After a few seconds of curious adoration of Mommy's new look, he realized what was up. The smile turned to a frown instantly and he started his protest yelling.

Halloween. Yes, this late.

Sorry for the ridiculous delay, but here are some Halloween pictures taken at Joe's school. They had an All Saint's Day party, Grandparents Day and Book Fair. Lucky Joe got to have one set of grandparents there for the big day! Patrick and Luke (above) are two dragons. Andrew was a Dragon as well.

Can you guess the saint that Joe was dressed as?

St. George, the dragon-slaying knight. No dragons were actually slain at any point in the day. Thank goodness.

Granddad giving Andrew a horsey ride. He enjoyed it a lot more than you can tell in this photo. Andrew, that is, not Granddad. Poor Granddad needed a heating pad after all of the boys got through with him. We were so glad to have them come.

This Thanksgiving, we opted not to go home. We'd made many trips to KC this year, and we just couldn't take Joe out of school for that long - especially after that super-long flu episode this fall. We were invited to the home of some friends from Joe's school. It was so nice to share the holiday with another family. We really enjoyed our time.

In other news, tonight at dinner, Andrew said a few words together: "Want more cracker" That's four (4) syllables! Of course, he could have been saying "wa gaa ka ker" Close enough.

While I was rummaging around for the Desitin for Andrew's raw little bottom, I left him naked on top of Joe's bed. In just a matter of seconds, he peed all over the quilt and blanket. Okay, that wasn't so cute. But, lately, when I put him down for a nap or bedtime before Joe, he gets very concerned, asking, "Doh? (Joe)" to the clump of blankets on his bed. They're good buddies.

Finally, Andrew has a cold and a double ear infection so I'm trying to be vigilant at clearing out his mucus. As I was aspirating his nose, he uttered another new word: "TOP!" I 'topped' as soon as his little nose was clear, but it was SO precious. Poor little guy. Yesterday was his feast day and we couldn't even celebrate. The cherry flavored liquid Tylenol is flowing like a river.
